Losing weight and keeping it off is rarely about willpower alone. Weight is affected by your health history, your medications, your sleep, your thyroid and hormones, and what is realistic in your daily life. The weight loss program at Kilcoy Medical Centre starts with a proper look at all of that, with a GP who knows your history, rather than a one-size-fits-all plan.

Your GP can look at the whole picture. That means checking for the medical causes that can make weight harder to shift, reviewing any medications that may be contributing, and understanding how weight is affecting other parts of your health such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and joint pain. It also means the plan you leave with fits your health, not just your goal weight.

The program is for adults who want to address their weight with medical support and ongoing review, particularly where weight is affecting other health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnoea or joint pain. Your GP will talk through whether it is the right approach for you at your first appointment.
Appointments with your GP are bulk billed for eligible Medicare cardholders. Some tests and treatments may carry a fee, and our reception team will explain any cost before you go ahead.

To get started, call (07) 5497 1076 and book a longer appointment with one of our GPs, mentioning that you would like to talk about weight. Allowing extra time means your doctor can go through your history properly rather than rushing it into a standard consultation.
A weight loss program with a GP starts with a longer appointment to review your health history, medications and previous attempts, along with baseline testing. Your doctor then works out a plan with you and reviews it at scheduled appointments, adjusting as you go.
No, you do not need a referral to join the weight loss program at Kilcoy Medical Centre. Call (07) 5497 1076 and book a longer appointment with one of our GPs, mentioning that you would like to discuss weight so we can allow enough time.
Blood tests are usually part of the initial assessment, because conditions such as an underactive thyroid or high blood glucose can affect your weight and need to be identified first. These are collected on site by 4Cyte Pathology, so you do not need a separate trip.
